R. Cornelius Danaher, Jr.

Of Counsel

Biography

Mr. Danaher is a graduate of Georgetown University College of Arts and Sciences and Georgetown University Law Center. He was a founding principal of DanaherLagnese, PC and is currently Of Counsel.

Mr. Danaher’s practice encompasses several areas of complex civil litigation including the defense of medical malpractice claims, insurance coverage disputes and medical device/product liability actions. He has extensive federal and state court experience and has argued before the 2nd and 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals.

The concentration of Mr. Danaher’s practice has been complex litigation. He is currently primarily involved in medical malpractice cases, insurance coverage matters and medical device cases. He has coordinated nationally the defense of a company which was a defendant in hundreds of thousands of toxic material cases. In that capacity, he has managed annual litigation budgets of between $150 to $200 million. Mr. Danaher has successfully litigated, including all phases of discovery, trial preparation and trial, a broad spectrum of medical malpractice cases including cases involving birth injuries, failure to diagnose, surgical complications, Emergency Department care and patient suicide. He has also represented defendants in arbitration proceedings. Over the past ten years, he has tried dozens of cases. The overwhelming majority of those matters have resulted in defense verdicts. In the few cases where there were plaintiff’s verdicts, the results were less than the pre-litigation demands. While other cases were resolved during discovery, the majority of those cases resulted in withdrawals of the claims without the payment of any monies on behalf of his clients. He has also been consistently successful in representing healthcare providers in licensing matters before the Connecticut Department of Health. Mr. Danaher recognizes that medical malpractice cases are emotionally draining on the defendants and believes that they should receive solid and constant support throughout the pendency of a case. Aside from maintaining close client communications, Mr. Danaher’s primary goals in the defense of medical malpractice cases are assuring a thorough workup of each file and insisting on creative defense strategies.

Mr. Danaher has taken an active role in risk mitigation as a frequent lecturer to medical professionals in both medical group and hospital settings regarding litigation prevention, risk management and best practices.

Mr. Danaher has been named by The Boston Globe in March 2015 as one of the Top Rated Lawyers in Boston.
