Biography

Ms. Hagerty is Managing Principal of the firm’s Fairfield County office in Westport, Connecticut. She practices in the firm’s medical malpractice department, defending civil lawsuits in the areas of professional negligence, medical malpractice and hospital liability, utilizing her nursing education and extensive experience in healthcare litigation including the defense of high exposure cases involving catastrophic personal injury. Ms. Hagerty also frequently represents licensed healthcare providers in proceedings before the Department of Public Health.

Ms. Hagerty began her career in Chicago, Illinois, where she practiced for many years with a large litigation firm defending medical malpractice, hospital negligence and product liability (medical device) cases. Prior to joining the firm, she was a partner at a Stamford, Connecticut litigation firm where she also focused her practice on medical malpractice defense. Ms. Hagerty’s representative experience includes defending medical malpractice cases including wrongful death and permanent injury due to surgical complications including bariatric and neurosurgical procedures; failed Stryker and Zimmer hip prostheses; hypoxic induced brain injury in newborns; delayed diagnosis of cancer and cardiovascular disease; permanent neurologic injury and death following general anesthesia; failed cardiac resuscitation; catastrophic outcomes in the emergency department setting; and blindness following ophthalmologic treatment in adults and children.

Ms. Hagerty received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The Ohio State University College of Nursing and holds a Juris Doctor from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. She is licensed to practice law in Connecticut and Illinois and is a registered nurse.

Ms. Hagerty is a frequent lecturer and facilitator for risk rounds for healthcare providers throughout the state involving issues of risk mitigation strategies and patient safety.
